Newtownards Shooting Club is Northern Ireland’s Premier indoor/outdoor live fire shooting range.
Our club has been established for over 10 years and is located in Carrowdore, a country village 10 minutes from Newtownards. Our facilities are top class and we are one of the top clubs in Northern Ireland. Our ranges have just been upgraded to meet new military standards that are being enforced by military and PSNI legislation.
We have military grade outdoor ranges spanning form 50 metres to 100 metres. These ranges are fully equipped to handle small-bore and full-bore rifles. We have a wide range of targets and score-charts to meet the demands of even the most accurate shooters. Our outdoor ranges are covered so that shooting can commence in all weather, 50 metres and 100 metres. Indoor ranges can be used all year round. We have a comprehensive range of firearms and ammunition available.
We have over 250 local members from across the country and our overseas members are growing steadily. The Club is affiliated with several well known bodies which include, the National Small Bore Rifle Association (NSRA Bisley), the United Kingdom Practical Shooting Association (UKPSA) and the West Kent Rifle League (WKRL).
We are also registered with the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland).
Our club house has a large comfortable seating area where our members and visitors like to relax before and after shooting. We have a wide range of refreshments including hot and cold drinks and snacks. Disabled users are very welcome as we can accommodate them for all disciplines of shooting.
Safety and Training
Every new member receives safety orders and a booklet upon joining. Safety courses and training are provided by fully qualified instructors resulting in qualifications in firearms handling and safety procedures. Some courses are mandatory for new members to enhance their appreciation of safety and firearms handling on indoor and outdoor ranges. Opportunities also exist for our members to attend Range Conducting Officer (RCO) courses. We encourage all our members to sit these courses as this strengthens our range safety and helps our new members (and existing members) stay safe when shooting together.
We also cover training in Practical Pistol and Practical Shotgun.
Our Safety Booklets
Some of the content in our safety booklets:
ALWAYS treat every gun as if it were loaded.
ALWAYS transport firearms and magazines empty.
ALWAYS be sure that the barrel and action are clear of obstructions.
ALWAYS carry your gun so that you can control the direction of the muzzle.
ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
NEVER point a gun at anything you do not want to destroy.
NEVER leave your gun unattended, even when empty.
NEVER pass a loaded firearm to another person, always ‘make it safe’ first and demonstrate.
NEVER shoot at a flat, hard surface or the surface of water.
NEVER mix firearms with drugs or alcohol.
We are a professional full-bore/small-bore shooting club. We do not cater for group parties or special occasions! We are a ‘members only’ shooting club. Please do not contact us to arrange day parties for shooting groups as rejection often offends. We appreciate your understanding.
No audio/video equipment may be used within the club grounds. (unless arranged with a club official) This is enforced by all club officials and there is a zero tolerance approach. Due to the nature of this sport we want our members to be comfortable when shooting and participating in our club. Our members have a right to privacy and we respect that. Along with privacy, mobile phones are dangerous as they can distract shooters. Mobile phones, smart phones, tablets, cameras etc. are prohibited on all ranges within Newtownards Shooting Club.
From Newtownards, follow the A20 for 3 miles, turn left onto the Mountstewart Rd – go another 3 miles and turn left at the crossroads, travel into Carrowdore. The club is in the last building on left through the village beside Strangford College.
